Organised crime in the Czech Republic in 2023
Abstract:
The article presents and analyses available statistical data on organised crime cases from the Czech Police and judicial statistics. It draws attention to the limited informative value of these statistics, as police data only concern individuals prosecuted for participating in an organised criminal group and judicial statistics only concern individuals convicted under Sections 107 and 361 of Act No. 40/2009 Coll.¹ These figures do not, of course, include all cases that could be characterised as organised crime activities. Nevertheless, they are a significant source of information for the implementation of criminal policy and, more specifically, for the criminal prosecution of organised crime, as well as providing insight into our success in detecting, proving and prosecuting this serious criminal activity. The article provides data on the number of individuals involved, their gender and age composition, and, where applicable, their reoffending rates and the structure of the penalties imposed.
