PhDr. Miroslav Scheinost has passed away
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing on June 1, 2026, of PhDr. Miroslav Scheinost, a leading Czech criminologist and long-time director of the IKSP. Miro’s professional career was linked to the IKSP since 1990, when he joined as a research fellow; in the 1990s, he served as the Institute’s deputy director, and from 2000 onward, he led it as director for twenty years. He made a significant contribution to preserving the existence of one of the oldest criminological research institutions in Europe, even during difficult times. He made a significant contribution to the comprehensive development of the IKSP and of criminology as an independent academic discipline in the Czech Republic, serving, among other roles, as a member of the organizing committee and the first president of the Czech Criminological Society, founded in 2012. In him, we have lost not only a widely respected colleague, but above all a dear friend, a witty companion, a respected teacher, and a kind person of profound personal and professional integrity. In agreement with the family, the public will be able to pay their respects on June 10 at 2:15 p.m. at the Motol Crematorium.
May he rest in peace!
